Shildon History Recall Society
The Society would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Shildon who have purchased a copy of our recent publication; Shildon – Our Town, which is a DVD depicting Shildon past and present in photographs and video.
The purpose of making the DVD was to allow the general public to have access to our photographic archive at as little cost as possible whilst raising money to purchase a digital projector and lap top computer.
The DVD has proved very popular not only within Shildon, but throughout the rest of the country and abroad including Australia, Canada, USA and a few European countries where ex-pats, some of whom we regularly communicate with via e-mail can enjoy pictures of their home town on their TV set.
Although some copies were sold via our web site www.shildon.org.uk the majority have been sold by the staff of Margot’s hair salon on Church Street, and the staff of the Shildon Centre on Main Street. Without the support of these people, we would not have reached our target and the Shildon History Recall Society is forever grateful for the time and effort they have given, free of charge.
Our society has met in the Shildon Centre (Old Police Station) on Main Street on Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 9pm for the last 21 years, and everyone is welcome, young or old: and the emphasis is on the history of Shildon and the surrounding area. Meetings are informal and there is no joining fee or weekly subscriptions but a small charge is made for refreshments which are optional. For further information please tel. 01388 777948.
