Shildon Town Council were successful in securing funding via HAHF -Holiday Activities with Health Food funding from Durham County and the Department for Education, to provide activities supported with healthy food for summer holiday provision.
The ‘Fun, Food and Film summer project ’ launched on Wednesday and was very well attended by Shildon families. They were welcomed by Town Council staff, then handed over to AJ Sports coaches for the activities. It was straight to it, with a carousel of fun activities for the families to try out from dribbling skills, to cricket and much more.
At the end of the sessions, families were escorted to the Civic Hall, where staff and management were all on hand to show everyone to their family tables in readiness for the 2 course healthy meal which this week was vegetable lasagne, salad and chunky chips, if you had left space for dessert it was freshly made apple crumble and custard, with fruit juice for the children and teas and coffees for the adults, the day finished with a screening of ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ on the new big screen.
Feedback from the session was very good, with many positive comments saying, everyone loved the range of inclusive activities and the lovely meal, one parent commented about their son trying vegetables, albeit new vegetables and enjoying them, so a successful start to this summer project.
