Have you wondered if your organisation could benefit from the services of Shildon Community Bus? We are hosting a coffee morning and information event on Saturday 12th November 2022. Come and meet us in the Methodist Church Hall, Shildon between 10.00am and 12.00 noon where you will find a warm welcome and free refreshments. You can have an informal chat with our volunteers and find out about hiring a bus, taking part in our shopping clubs, or learning to drive a minibus free of charge. We are always pleased to welcome more office administrators and volunteer drivers. Our service covers Shildon, Newton Aycliffe, Ferryhill, Spennymoor, Bishop Auckland, and the villages surrounding.

Shildon Community Bus-Annual General Meeting 2022
The Annual General Meeting of Shildon Community Bus will take place in the Methodist Church Shildon at 6.30pm on 13th June 2022.
All are welcome.
We will be reviewing the past year which has been better than expected after COVID 19 and we are supporting the transport needs of over 30 voluntary groups and institutions.
We will be electing members to our management committee – we have vacancies for Trustees and for office administration volunteers, and minibus drivers.
Our organisation has been in existence for over 30 years but urgently needs people to support us in our voluntary work.
For an informal chat about volunteering, or to tell us that you will be attending, please phone the current secretary Clare Midgley on 07515644194 or enquire via shildonbus@yahoo.com.

Shildon Town Council and Shildon Alive – In Your Neighbourhood Funding – Guerrilla Gardening Project 2021
Shildon Town Council and Shildon Alive work together each year to provide a range of horticultural and environmental opportunities to Children attending Shildon’s Primary Schools, both onsite and in the wider community using Hackworth Park, St John’s Church Yard and Furnace Pitt Community Garden.
Unfortunately, last year due to ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, we were unable to deliver our planned activities with school pupils, one of which was to be the sowing of the brand new Legacy VE Day 75 Wildflower Meadow.
We were however fortunate that we also have DAAC – Durham Agency Against Crime, using Hackworth Park, as an outdoor learning environment. Once it became apparent we were unable to proceed as planned with the schools, DAAC stepped up, and offered to help us out by getting their young people involved in sowing the new 70metre by 30meter meadow area.
They made a great job, and ensured we were able to meet the criteria of the Civic Pride ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ Grant Scheme, in conjunction with Northumbria in Bloom and the RHS which provided us with an opportunity to again entre the ‘In Your Neighbourhood Awards 2021. Representatives of the group attended the presentations on 29th September, where the new Legacy VE Day 75 Wildflower Meadow, helped us again attain ‘Thriving’, status again, for this project work, a fantastic result for everyone involved.
